Red vein sorrel is a perennial herb to USDA Zone 6. Once established, it requires little care. Sorrel is best known for its lemon-like flavor. Along with its lemony taste, the red vein sorrel puts on a marvelous display of leaves that are lined with blazing traces of crimson red. These features make it an instant favorite for cooks and gardeners alike. It is best to harvest its young leaves and use them raw in salads. Red vein sorrel is almost as hardy as green onion; it takes care of itself albeit one doesn’t cut too many leaves for a fresh meal or two.
