Native aster supports 112 species of native butterflies and moths, according to Professor Doug Tallamy.
New England Aster (Aster de la Nouvelle-Angleterre in French) is a common wildflower in Northeast America. It is a fall garden staple. In mid-October, while most flowers fade, this aster blooms. It is nature's mercy to all the bees and butterflies that are hungry for nectar but having difficulties finding some in the cold air. A native perennial plant, it requires little maintenance after establishment. The indigenous people use it widely to treat minor diseases. So much so, only smelling the crushed leaves is a pleasant and healing experience.
