It’s a sheer pleasure to watch tomato seeds sprouting from the soil and gracefully grow into little seedlings. These tiny seedlings are then transplanted from their pots to the ground. For a couple days (3-5 days after the transplant), the seedlings may seem as if they are dormant. It is, however, during this time that their roots begin developing. As temperature rises, leaves will grow rapidly while innocent, yellow flowers begin to blossom.
Soon after, pearl-shaped fruits will emerge from the buds. It is during this time when little children will become full of excitement and curiosity, usually asking questions like, “Could I try a green tomato?” or perhaps, “When will these tomatoes be ready?” The children will eventually figure out that green tomatoes taste awful and will not ask the same question again.
Watching the bitter, green tomatoes turn into sun-kissed, cherry red tomatoes can be a test of patience for the little ones. We would leave it to you to figure out the joy of tasting these Gardener’s Delight tomatoes. We would like to kindly let you know that this tomato is prone to cracking and is not recommended for commercial growers.
