Serviceberry is a hardy, multi-season shrub cherished by gardeners and nature lovers. It begins in spring with elegant white blossoms, marking the start of the traditional Shad Run in New England. These flowers ripen into deep purple berries by midsummer—loved by birds and often enjoyed fresh or in jams. In fall, the shrub glows with orange-red foliage before going dormant for winter.

Please note: if you’re looking for a specific named cultivar, we recommend purchasing a sapling from a local nursery. Serviceberries hybridize naturally, so plants grown from seed may vary in characteristics from the parent.

Important Growing Info:
Serviceberry seeds germinate slowly and require 3 to 6 months of stratification (cold exposure). Fall sowing is recommended for natural stratification.
